The Royal Naval Minewarfare & Clearance Diving Officers' Association (MCDOA) was founded by the incumbent RN Superintendent of Diving Cdr David Sandiford RN (subsequently elected as its first Chairman) and Lt Cdr Rob Hoole RN (subsequently elected as its first Secretary).

It was launched at an inaugural meeting held in HMS Nelson (Gunwharf), the renamed site of HMS Vernon, on 3 April 1992.

The aim of the Association is to perpetuate the "Esprit de Corps" of Royal Naval and certain other Minewarfare and Clearance Diving Officers for their mutual benefit through the frequent exchange of information and regular meetings on both a formal and social basis.
